Dick Wittington

DickWittington1.jpg

12 Dec 2003 - 4 Jan 2004: Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guilford

Comments Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford reunite (again), but this time not as the Doctor and Mel. Bonnie is the panto classic hero, Dick Wittington, while Sylv plays the evil King Rat. Charles Spencer of telegraph.co.uk said that Sylv played "a memorably evil King Rat who not only delivers his villainous lines with orotund relish but also plays a mean pair of spoons."

Noises Off

Feb - Jul 2003: National Tour, Aug - Oct 2003: Piccadilly Theatre, London

Review While on its national tour, I caught Noises Off in Cheltenham. Noises Off is the Michael Frayn play which celebrates farce with farce. The play Nothing On is being performed by a second-rate theatre troupe and we, the audience, see the last rehearsal and two other performances both back stage and front. Sylv's character is a former well known Shakespearean actor, Selsdon Mowbray, who was brought on as a Name, but is more interested in drinking than in acting. He's also a bit hard of hearing. Sylv is a delight to watch, and so are the rest of the cast.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

Dec 2001 - Jan 2002: Sadler's Wells Theatre

Review This was the first live performance I'd seen Sylvester McCoy in. It's become a yearly tradition by the RSC now, and 2001 was Sylv's first time in the production. He played Mr. Beaver, the kindly animal who helps the children through Narnia on their search for Aslan. Sylv's wonderful performance (singing, dancing, gurning, etc.) was only part of the fabulous production. Regardless of who will be performing in later productions, get yourself there. It's one of the most impressive stage performances I've seen. Certain to entertain every child of every age.

The Dead Move Fast

Aug 2001: Gilded Ballroom Edinburgh

Comments I wasn't quite able to get to the UK in time to see this production, but a friend of mine (Sarah MacIntosh) bought me the script book. Thanks Sarah! So I read the script and found it enjoyable. I could see the part of Doctor Mallinson being played by Sylv - quite fitting. It's just a shame I couldn't see it in person.

The Hypochondriak

Sep - Oct 2000: Royal Lyceum Theatre

Comments My favorite actor in a play by my favorite playwright (Moliere)! Oh to be in Scotland, back when Sylv was there... This production was apparently done in full Scots brogue. Sarah (see above) said she even had trouble understanding some of it for the thick accents. Perhaps Sylv will perform some Moliere at a time when I can watch him perform.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Comments Very colorful production - a part written for McCoy. In the album you can find a wav of an excerpt from the Pied Piper rap, as sung by Sylv.
