SERIES SYNOPSIS The Chronicles of Narnia by
C. S. Lewis was made into a 7 story radio serial by the BBC in 1995. One
of the characters of the Narnia series is a talking mouse called Reepicheep.
The BBC cast Sylvester McCoy in that role. He appears in two of the seven
stories, Prince Caspian and The
Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Reepicheep does show up in the
final story, The Last Battle, but he has only a few scant lines
in that production.

Prince Caspian
SYNOPSIS It has been hundreds of years since the Sons of Adam and the Daughers of Eve sat on the throne at Cair Paravel. Young Prince Caspian has only ever heard tales of talking beasts and dwarves and Aslan, but he wants more than anything to meet them. His wish comes true when he flees the castle to save his life. Now it's up to the old Narnians and the Pevensy children to wrestle the throne back for Caspian.
REVIEW I've been a fan of the Narnian saga for a
long time. And this BBC radio adaptation is now my favorite adaptation. Not
just because they had the sense to cast Sylv as Reepicheep. But when I'm
listening, the scene is set very firmly in my mind with the use of music,
sounds, and good description. Sylv not only gets to play the wonderfully
fiesty mouse, Reepicheep, but also Camillo
the Hare (who sounds like the Butler Crud) and one of the Telmarines
at the end. None of his characters show up until the second side of casette
one (aka halfway through CD 1), but the story moves along quickly enough
to that point.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader
SYNOPSIS Caspian is now a young adult and he is sailing to the ends of the earth to find his father's old friends. Lucy and Edmund, meanwhile, are spending a holiday with their least favorite cousin, Eustace. The Pevensies and Eustace get pulled into Narnia and are reunited with Caspian and Reepicheep. There they sail together, not knowing what they will find.
REVIEW Reepicheep isn't in that much of Prince Caspian, but he's one of the major players in Treader. Once again, the production values are outstanding. The sounds of the sea and the sounds of the surf are perfectly captured but don't obscure the speakers. And for a real treat, the listener gets to listen to Sylv sing as Reepicheep. (And you thought his Pied Piper rap was impressive...)

don't mind him."

Let them come! All I ask is that the King will put me and my people on the

so quiet here. Hardly a sound."

tail!"
-
"Do
I understand that you do not intend to give me satisfaction?"
-
"Where
sky and waters meet. Where the waves grow swee-ee-eet. Doubt not Reepicheep,
to find all you seek. There is the utter east."
-
Reepicheep: "I
do not know what it means. But the spell of it has been on me all my life!"
Lucy: "I hope you find the meaning, Reepicheep."
Reepicheep: "I believe I shall, your majesty."
-
"That,
sir, is untrue!"
