David Tennant's comments that, because the Doctor as a general rule doesn't go around shooting people, has hampered any widescale adaptation of the Doctor's adventures on to the computer screen didn't seem to apply in the early 90s where there was one computer game where the Doctor quite happily went around shooting energy bolts from his sonic screwdriver. Admittedly, you can argue that this is not in keeping with the ethos of the show and that, whilst most of those on the receiving end of those sonic shots are Daleks and Ogrons, they were also used to off Parisian burglars and New York punks, both of whom posed a danger despite Dalek occupation of the planet.

What am I talking about? Dalek Attack of course, the scrolling screen platform shoot 'em up where the Doctor (Either Troughton, T. Baker or McCoy) accompanied by his trusty companion (The Brigadier or Ace) fought to rid 22nd century Earth from Dalek occupation in the diverse locals of London, Paris, New York and Toyko, before taking the final battle to Skaro.

Although shooting the bad guys is a major component of the game and was a staple in those days, there is still enough of a mystery story to keep the brain working. There are various puzzles and challenges along the way with hidden rooms and invisible platforms to traverse and unlikely goodies to be found by exploring behind innocuous objects like fire extinguishers and under train seats.

Fans of the Daleks will be in for a treat as every possible colour variation is on display and they lurk in all sorts of places to menace you, whether swooping from the skies in their floating saucers or emerging from below. They're accompanied by Ogrons, Robomen and Skarosian mutants whilst the big bosses at the end of the game are of course the Emperor Dalek and Davros.

All in all, fun at the time and I wish my copy still worked!
